514 SMOKE interviews SKIN DEEP

The up-and-coming producer recently dropped a compilation. We got in touch with him to get more familiar with the man behind the concept.

1. Can you officially present yourself to our viewers?
I am SkinDeep, heads should know me as a former member of the Velvet Trench Vibes ( producer/drummer) and current member of the Underground Realroad (lyricist/hypeman). My style of music that I perform is mostly Hip-Hop and R&B but my production ranges anywhere between classic hip-hop to house music.

2. How would you describe the direction of this project?
When I first got the idea for this project I was just looking for a way to showcase my art to the masses and establish myself as a prominent producer in Montreal and the rest of Canada. As thing progressed, the projects focus changed and was now more about showcasing Montreal's strong talented artists and encouraging unity within the city.

3. Did all the features get picked up specifically for a beat or did you go with the flow?
I would say it was half / half. At first I tried to delegate each beat to a specific artist and gradually ended up going with the flow on some of the songs that were created later. "Pointer" is a good example. For that song, I just hit up a ton of Mc's with the beat and told them when I would be recording the song.  Those that showed up made the cut.

4. Is it safe to say that lyricism played a big part in your LP?
I think its safe to say that both lyricism AND production value played an equal role in my LP. As it is a producer's compilation, my intent was to capture listeners with solid production that would have a lasting appeal on them even if the lyrics were not what they were looking for. I can easilly say that no song falls short in terms of lyricism.

5. Should we look forward to see some visuals/videos off the project?
Most definitely! currently I am in the pre production stage for three videos that I will be releasing for the LP. I won't give away everything right away but fans should be expect a video for "Hoshi" and "Pointer" in near future.

We would like to thank Skin Deep for the interview and don't forget to download the LP (look on the right side...)
