Beauty & Voice: the interview

Whenever I discover a new talent that I can actually feel has the passion for it, I have to make sure the public gets familiar and start taking notice.  So here we go with the lovely Tammy T

1-What made you decide to enter the music world?
My father was a musician so music has always been a part of my household.  I remember growing up my dad would have jam sessions with other musicians and singers.  It would go from 7-8pm to 4-5am.  I used to sneak into the basement and I would sit on these HUGE club speakers we had, sometimes I would lay down and fall asleep right on them and ummmm the music was BLASTING!!!  (Laugh)  My love and passion for music started in the womb and is still in my heart to this day. But to answer your question more precisely, I decided to sing on a serious level because God gave me a gift, my voice and the way I see it: USE IT or LOSE IT...

2-Where do you get your inspirations to write?
Well I been to Hell and Back a few times so I get all my inspiration from those oh-so-fun-filled trips to hell lol...  I sing a lot about things I have personally lived through.  My life is far from perfect and is definitely UNCONVENTIONAL.  BUT it made me who I am, it made me strong and I'm still here.  So might as well sing about it and if I can touch or impact one person with my music, my work would have been done.

3-You have Jessika Blakk working on your career, how important is it to have a manager?
At first I didn't see the importance of having a manager, but working with Jessica has allowed me to be an artist and work on my craft while she handles everything else.  Yes, I am an artist, but by being that artist I am also a business.  A business needs structure, goals, coaching, training, marketing, sales, publicity and needs to generate a revenue in order to be profitable.  So like I said, for me, having proper management has allowed TammyT to be TammyT, and my manager works with me to set and reach goals.  It takes a huge stress and weight off my shoulders, I can concentrate on my music knowing that the rest is being handled.   And I will add that as a cute, tatted redbone woman in the industry, my manager filters the "vicieux's" aka pervs from the real artists that wanna work. Which, to me, is one of the major perks of having a manager.

4-What is the best way to work your vocal? (for youngsters who would like to sing)
I am not really the best person to answer that question, because I never took singing lessons, and I don't work out my voice nor practice it, BUT what I often do is listen to Mahalia Jackson, Whitney Houston, Patti Labelle, Mariah Carey, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra etc etc and I try to re-produce the same runs/variations, the same strenght/power, basically I imitate what they do and it definitely give my voice a workout.  Those artists are the real deal, no auto-tune no nada.  I will also add that it is important to take care of your instrument aka your voice.  So in winter, cover it up with a nice warm scarf.  Avoid smoking or drinking alcohol or at least control it as much as you can. Tea is always good.  I am personally addicted to Chai tea (laugh).  Basically take care of your voice as you would with any other instruments with love and care.

5-Talk about your upcoming project.
I have a few things in the works right now, but my main focus if my album called "UNCONVENTIONAL".  I recently pushed back the release due to the passing of a good friend, which put a lot into perspective for me.  I want this album to be more than just another chick singing.  I want it to mean something.  I want it to bring something to peoples lives.  I want it to be real and raw and give people hope that even if your situation is messed up, its all good, you will get through it because if I did, SO CAN YOU!   Right now I'm focused on re-vamping the album and changing the direction a bit, BUT it is coming out in May, SO STAY TUNED for UNCONVENTIONAL!!! And until then I have a few things in store for those who support and love me because without them there is no TammyT.

Thank you Tammy T for the interview and we will patiently wait for the full album.
